It’s been ages since I made something for me, so I decided to make a tube scarf from the yarn I was given for my birthday. I received two balls of Twilley’s ‘Freedom Spirit’ yarn, in No. 508 ‘Bliss’.
I’m no expert in knitting or fibres, but I’m trying to learn. That disclaimer made, I had to write about this wool. It’s the most beautiful stuff I’ve ever knit with. The yarn is self striping, with two shades loosely spun together through the length of the yarn. The colour changes from delicate misty shades to rich berry tones striped with candy colours in just a few inches.
The texture – it really has to be felt to be believed. The wool is incredibly soft and flossy feeling. It’s not tightly spun, and has a very slight ‘halo’ effect as a result. What I mean by halo is the yarn is a little bit fuzzy. It makes for a very warm knit, and the stitch definition is a little blurred. I wouldn’t use a very complex pattern for this yarn, with the self striping and lush colourway, I think a simple pattern is best to really show this stuff off. Pictures will follow when I’ve finished.
